Terms of service

These terms govern your use of localize.today ("the Service"), operated by Sky Tech ("we", "us"). By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. What the service does

localize.today provides a client-side JavaScript library and a translation API that translates website content into multiple languages using large language models (LLMs). The client library is embedded in your website. When a visitor selects a language, visible page text is sent to our API, translated via an AI provider, and returned to the browser.

2. Your responsibilities

  • Your content. You are responsible for the content on your website. We translate what's on your page — we don't review, moderate, or approve it. Don't use the Service to translate content that is illegal, defamatory, or infringes on others' rights.
  • Your visitors. If you embed localize.today on your site, you are responsible for informing your visitors that page text is sent to a third-party service for translation. Update your own privacy policy accordingly.
  • Reasonable use. Don't abuse the Service. This includes automated scraping of translations, sending artificially inflated request volumes, or attempting to reverse-engineer our infrastructure.

3. The service "as is"

localize.today is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. We make reasonable efforts to keep the Service available and translations accurate, but we do not guarantee:

  • 100% uptime or availability
  • Translation accuracy or completeness
  • That the Service will meet your specific requirements

If our API goes down, the client library degrades gracefully — your site shows the original content. Your site never breaks because of us.

4. AI translation provider

Translations are processed through OpenRouter, a third-party AI routing service. Your page text passes through their infrastructure and is processed by large language model providers. By using localize.today, you also agree to OpenRouter's terms of service and privacy policy as they apply to translation processing. We select providers that do not train on user inputs by default, but we cannot guarantee how third-party providers handle data beyond their stated policies.

5. Intellectual property

Your content remains yours. We claim no ownership over your source content or its translations. The translated text belongs to you.

Our code. The localize.today client library and backend are open source. The Service (hosted infrastructure, API endpoints, caching layer) is operated by us. You may self-host the open source code under its license terms.

6. Pricing and payment

The Service currently offers a free tier with unlimited translations. We reserve the right to introduce paid tiers, usage limits, or rate limiting in the future. If we do, existing free usage will not be retroactively billed. We will provide reasonable notice before any pricing changes that affect your use.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, localize.today and Sky Tech shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of revenue, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, on the free tier, is zero).

8. Termination

You can stop using localize.today at any time by removing the script tag from your website. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if you violate these terms or abuse the infrastructure. We will attempt to notify you before termination unless the violation is severe (e.g., infrastructure abuse).

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Service evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be resolved in New Zealand courts. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
